Adventure Outdoors With Wild West Adventure Travel Tours

On Country-Adventures you'll find one hour trail rides - week long pack trips and everything in between... click here to find your "western" adventure.

Some forms of adventure travel allow the traveler and adventurer to seemingly travel into another time as well physical space. One of the most spectacular examples of this kinds of outdoor adventure travel are the horseback trips through the mountains, meadows, and woods of rural Wyoming, Idaho, North Dakota, and Montana. These outdoor adventure trips do not just offer a physical challenge (although, if you so choose, the trip you undertake can be very physically challenging indeed); they are also immensely appealing to the imagination.

Outdoor Adventures In A Remote Land

In certain remote corners of the US West, the frontier has not disappeared. There are vast tracts of wilderness in the northwestern US, where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains; where mountains form fanciful and forbidding flat-topped formations known as buttes; and where tall pine trees climb up steep mountain slopes and bare blue mountains loom over the wooded slopes, above the tree line. There are forgotten trails that criss-cross these remote corners of the country, some of which are situated on private land, and some on public. The best way to explore this remote land? Unquestionably, it is adventure travel on horseback.

Outdoor Adventures Trips On Horseback

Most people don't think that it's possible to re-experience the time when horses were the only form of transportation around; when the railroad hadn't even been built yet, and most of the western half of what was to become the United States was an uncharted wilderness. Yet, that is precisely how it feels to explore the wilds of Wyoming on a horse, exploring the open range. In that mountainous, remote region of the United States, there are many private ranches and independent tour operators that guide horseback riders of every skill level through this otherwise untracked wilderness.

Build Your Skill For More Adventure Outdoors

Although people on horseback seem to remain in a sitting position all day, horseback riding is more strenuous than it looks. Long journeys on horseback over tough terrain require both physical strength, and experience controlling the horse. The more experienced you are, the more extensive the journey you can undertake. There are horseback trips to remote lakes and streams, separated from the rest of civilization by a journey of a day or more. With no drivable roads around, and laws against gas-powered vehicles such as ATVs, the only way to get to many of these places is on foot or by horseback. Once there, the fishing, sightseeing, and birdwatching are usually particularly rewarding. Fortunately, the more you ride, the stronger you get, and the more extensive outdoor adventure tours you can undertake.
